Video Recreation

I recreated Phil Niblock's "Annie". The original video is of the dancer, Ann Danoff. The video follows her around a cityscape and also cuts to some scenes from the countryside. I filmed on campus for the cityscape and the countryside. My interpretation of the piece is that the woman is daydreaming of being away from the city and her work, she would rather be in the countryside. I can definitely relate to the daydreaming aspect of the video. I also like how the video shows two contrasting worlds- the urban city and nature.

  1. Kimberly,
An interesting choice of subject that presents some unique challenges. Your timing and point of view are generally well executed. That said, as we noted in class, the angle on the shot on the stairs was a bit off. Rather than going from memory would have been good to have some prints of the shots in question to reference. Also might have been interesting to look at altering the coloration of your reenactment to closer match the original. Take a look at Allen's piece here: http://allendlewis.blogspot.com/2011/10/glimpse-of-garden-by-marie-menken-1910.html

  2. Great job with the recreation video. It's nice to see you choosing locations that are so close to the original (and I know that can be hard to do!). I though it was great choice of locations. My only critique is your actual camera angles. There are a few times were you nail the location and position of the actress, but the scene is just slightly off. (For example, the close up of the girl's eye lid, the eye movement is not really similar to the original video). Overall, awesome job! Really enjoyed it.
